"During one of the Federal House of Reps aspirant's
campaign rally, one of his aides amusingly
remarked: 'Oga surprised me today o. Throughout
five years I've been with him, except his wife, I've
never seen him heartily shake hands with ordinary
people, not to talk of hug them, as he did today.'
"That is, either his Oga has been very conscious of
infectious diseases, or has real contempt for
common people. The latter is irrefutably the case. It
is natural for rich people to always frown at the poor
unkess they plan to manipulate them. In Nigeria, it
is natural for the politicians to frown at the ordinary
people unless they need their votes.
"During the election season, Nigerian politicians
would become friendly with Tom, Dick and Harry. At
their campaign rallies, they dance and dine with the
common people. They make deceptive speeches
and exhibit kind gestures with ulterior motives –
'Smiling faces lying to the races,' like BeBe CeCe put
it in the song 'I will take you there'. But when the
election is over, when the votes count out their
usefulness at the season, and the elected politician
has no need for the people's votes, he returns to his
original nature. With the new status, he fortifies his
security details and rides in tinted vehicles so that
the people he was hugging during his campaign do
not see him passing by.
"Understanding the true nature of the relationship
between the Nigerian politicians and the people is
the elixir to Nigeria's political and economic
problems. People should comprehend the fact that
the real power to make or mar any government is in
their hands. They should organize themselves
against politicians' antics.
"Isn't it amusing that, till this day, Nigerians still do
not see how united the politicians are. The whole
thing is a drama, and Nigerian politicians are the
actors, with Nigerians as spectators. So they apply
every known tactic to play their dramatic roles well,
even pretending to wage bitter battles against each
other, in order to retain the spectators' attention.
For example, was it not in the news that Obasanjo
had bluntly warned the APC leaders not to field
Atiku as their presidential candidate? Was it not also
in the news that Obasanjo and Atiku were recently
seen hugging each other at the airport and visiting
Babangida together?
"The truth is that Nigerian politicians
have conspired against the people of Nigeria. That is
why all criminal cases against corrupt politicians
must remain staled. That is why, in one month, a
single Nigerian lawmaker makes more than an
average school teacher throughout his teaching
career, and more than Obama, president of the
largest economy in the whole world, takes home in a
month. Still, our President says nothing. Of course,
our President says nothing because these
lawmakers and politicians are his friends.
Also, because the lawmakers know that if what Mr
President takes home in a month is mentioned in
public, Nigerians will have heart attack."
