Reps scaling NASS fence shameful –NBA president

President of the Nigerian Bar Association,
NBA, Mr. Augustine Alegeh, SAN, has
described as shameful members of House of
Representatives scaling fence into the
National Assembly complex.

The lawyers' president, who spoke at the
Annual Dinner of the Ilorin branch of the
association, also called for thorough
investigation to know the cause of the
invasion of the National Assembly.

He solicited for caution among the political
class and for them to play the game by the
rules and not unnecessarily heat up the polity
because of selfish interests.

Alegeh also admonished his members to go
by the ethics of the profession at all times.

Chairman of the branch and chief host of the
event, Mr. Mobolaji Ojibara, called for an
independent judiciary as the sine qua non to
the upholding of the rule of law in a
democratic society.

In line with this, Ojibara implored the Kwara
State governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, to
allow a self-funding judiciary in the state.

"To this end, we are reiterating our appeal to
the governor to immediately look into the
issue of making the state judiciary self-
funding by complying with section 121 and
other relevant provisions of the constitution
as (amended) on financial autonomy of the
judiciary. These provisions are mandatory
and must be observed," Ojibara said.

He also enjoined politicians, particularly the
office seekers among them to "play by the
rule and walk the talk by allowing our votes to
count as citizens."

The chairman also appealed to members
saying, "Let us be reminded that the society
looks up to us for leadership and direction."
