Ekiti Speaker Impeached Again By Seven PDP Lawmakers

The Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly,
Dr Adewale Omirin has been impeached once
again by seven members of the Peoples'
Democratic Party, PDP.
According to Punch report, the impeachment was
carried out today, November 20, in the same
manner the seven lawmakers did on Monday with
heavy police presence while approving Governor
Ayodele Fayose's commissioner nominees and local
government caretaker committees.
Ekiti Speaker, Hon. Adewale Omirin
The lawmakers were said to have held a sitting to
elect a new speaker and other principal officers
while 19 lawmakers belonging to the All
Progressives Congress, APC, were in Lagos, for a
press conference, Channels TV reports.
The seven lawmakers elected Hon Dele Olugbemi as
the new Speaker of the House.
However, Omirin has described the move by the PDP
lawmakers as illegal, insisting that he remains the
Speaker.
Olugbemi was a member of All Progressive Congress
(APC) before his recent announcement of defection
to the PDP had been made the acting speaker on
Monday, after seven lawmakers were escorted into
the state Assembly Complex in Ekiti by Mobile
Police Commander, Selenkere Michael.
Following reports that the speaker was impeached
on Monday, the All Progressives Congress, APC had
condemned the action of the members of the PDP.
In his reaction, the Governor of Ekiti state, Ayo
Fayose had debunked the news saying, the
lawmakers breached no laws, and did not impeach
the house speaker.
