Gunmen suspected to be members of the
Boko Haram sect have reportedly abducted
more than 20 girls in Lassa, Borno State.
Sources claimed that the sect members had
made previous unsuccessful attempts to
overrun the town before the latest move
during which they abducted the ladies.
It was reported that the gunmen attacked
the town, armed with heavy weaponry and
subsequently overwhelmed the local hunters.
"They burnt almost half of the town before
they left. They also abducted more than 20
girls and killed many people, mostly old men
and women", another source said.
Meanwhile, efforts are on by the military
authorities to drive the insurgents out of the
town.
