The Era Of Political Zombies: A Revolution Call For Nigerian Youths By Adewale Onagbesan

With a lot of controversies surfacing in the political
scene of many nations, especially our
great hometown termed 'the giant of Africa' depicts a
lot, but most importantly, the need for total,
massive and positive youth participation in all
political scenario come 2015 election.
The youth are vital and inevitable stakeholders in the
political activities of Nigeria. Our roles
as stakeholders transcend the workings of the social
media. It incorporates physical and strong
political involvement, engagement and mass
participation. A political stakeholder does not voice
his/her opinion on social media alone.
According to a political journalist, there is a great
necessity for drastic change of the political attitudes
of the youth come 2015 election. It is however a pity
that most youth cultivate a culture of
low expectations, and political apathy. The youths
must always remember that all politics are local,
although in Nigeria it's murky; however, there are
many opportunities for us to get involved.
The implication of our political indifference is simply
maladministration by the zombies in politics. This
is so obvious in many students' unionism and
administration most especially that of the erstwhile
national association of Nigerian Students' (NANS)
president, Comrade Yinka Gbadebo, who feels
President
Goodluck Jonathan is worthy to be the Grand
Commander of Nigerian Students (GCNS).
However, Yinka Gbadebo had forgotten that the
visionless President Jonathan was the man, whose
tenure had showcase many anti-democratic issues,
ranging from Nigerian students' strikes in
Universities, Polytechnics as well as colleges of
education to insecurity resulting to the Boko Haram
insurgency.
According to Dr. Christopher Kolade, the youth are
the most active in any activities of Nigeria, but it's
a pity that the youth do not seem to get their
position bearings on various platforms of issues in
the country. However, a political zombie is believed
to be politically lifeless- one that seems to be alive,
but not involved in any aspect of politics; as well as
someone who is capable of influencing the
political scenes, but can't.
A great implication of the political indifference of
youths in the University of First of choice and
nation's pride, University of Lagos is the
administration of many faculties within the
institution.
Starting with the faculty of Business administration,
Science, and most concerned about is the Faculty of
education under the control of Com. Rasaq
Olamilekan, and Rt. Hon. Adebowale Titus who are
great example of vision less Students' leaders and
individuals who are bereft of the fundamentals of
politics. The
administration which had been tagged 'a period with
no head, no tail' had forced a Congress for Nov
11, 2014 2:00pm at the education hall.
According to Aristokrat, a political historian and
public analyst, most youths are in the institution
of political zombie save a few; most youths are not
political contributors; most youths are
political liabilities and not political assets; most
youths are political spectators and not key players;
most youths are great destroyer of political value;
most youths are political pace keepers and not
political pace setters; and the youths feel less
concerned to fight for justice, liberty, freedom and
happiness just because; we don't want to get
questioned or crucified.
We must understand the fact that our meagre
contributions towards our societal political murkiness
will go a great extent correcting the cruds.
Are you politically responsible? If not, it's a great
time when you
can make the drastic changes (Lamentations 3:27).
Get involved, and participate greatly.
