Obasanjo faction may dump PDP for APC in Ogun

Strong
indications
emerged yesterday that a faction of the embattled
Peoples Democratic Party, ( PDP) loyal to the former
president, Olusegun Obasanjo in Ogun State may
join the ruling All Progressives Congress in the
state.
This was the conclusion of majority of members
after a meeting which held at the Olusegun
Obasanjo Presidential Library, (OOPL), Abeokuta,
the state capital. The development had also led to a
sharp division among members of the party, who
were of the opinion that the move would not
benefit the cross-carpeting members.
There has been irreconcilliable differences between
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Prince Buruji
Kashamu, the party's Chairman, Organization and
Mobilization in the Southwest.
Before yesterday's meeting, leading members of
the faction have been romancing the APC,
necessitating disenchantment among members.
Sources closed to the meeting told Saturday Sun
that the motion for the members of the faction to
join the APC in the state was moved by Chief Tayo
Odulaja, from Ogun East Senatorial District and
was seconded by anotber member.
A counter motion was later moved by a former
member of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Olu
Fatoki who was of the opinion that members should
remain in the party and find a solution to whatever
problems it is currently going through.
He was quoted as saying that it was better for
members to remain in the PDP and find a lasting
solution to its problems than to dump it for the APC
that is also enmeshed in leadership crisis.
This position was said to have been supported by
the former chairman of the state universal
education board, Lisa Adejobi, who reasoned that
going to the party would be suicidal.
Thereafter, the motions were put into votes and
about 94 members of the members voted in favour
of the first motion that the faction should join the
Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration as
against the Faoki's motion which scored 48 votes.
Aside from 10 members of the party each across
the 20 local government areas of the state that
attended the about three hours meeting, the
former chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Joju
Fadairo, as well as the removed national auditor of
the party, Chief Bode Mustafa, the former
gubernatorial aspirant of the party, Dr, Femi
Majekodunmi among several others were also in
attendance.
