Boxing Day Bus Accident Kills 3 In Ogun State Nigeria; 8 Injured

2 men and one woman met their untimely death
yesterday in a fatal bus accident in Ogun State,
Nigeria.
According to FRSC spokesperson, Nosiru Taiwo, the
accident occurred around 5pm on Abeokuta-Sagamu
road on Thursday, December 26, 2013.
The fatal crash involved a passenger bus with
registration number YD 854 FST. It happened
precisely at Soowo town near Kobape in Obafemi
Owode LGA of Ogun State.
"The bus belonged to the Road Transport Employers
Association,Nigeria,RTEAN.The vehicle was coming
from Ibadan and it was going to Sango Ota and
decided to pass through Abeokuta,so as to avoid
some gridlock on the road. The accident was caused
by over speeding as the driver lost control when the
tyre burst.The vehicle somesaulted and crossed the
median,"said Babatunde Akinbiyi, the PRO of the
Ogun State traffic management authority, TRACE.
Apart from the 3 fatalities, 8 people (6 men and 2
women) suffered serious injuries.
The FRSC spokesperson said this fatal accident could
have been averted if the commercial driver wasn't in
a hurry to make quick money.
